Smart door lock aimed at platforming

LatchOS is a platform released by US company Latch on September 22 (local time). Latch was founded in 2014 to develop vertically integrated hardware and software solutions for apartment houses. Unlike other smart doors that simply replace doors, Latch has investigated the different types of locks present in apartment buildings and developed solutions that work for each.

This allows building managers and apartment landlords and owners to be managed by someone with access to the door, such as maintenance staff and delivery personnel. With the introduction of LatchOS, the company said that users will be able to integrate company apps with other devices in the building as well as doors. You can control Sonos speakers, honeywells, ecobee thermometers, shiso and Leviton light switches, and more through the Latch app. Of course, starting with this, Latch OS will be configured to become a platform, and more integration will be implemented according to the needs of buildings and users.

Latch has already raised more than $150 million. In 2019, sales exceeded 100 million dollars, and it is said that 1 out of 10 buildings in the U.S. uses latch products. Latch makes money by selling hardware to building owners, charging monthly software fees, and making the service free to landlords and apartment owners. With the release of LatchOS, Latch can also be integrated to benefit end users. In this case, end users can upgrade to new features or purchase services through the platform.
