Google’s recap car competition with over 15% market share

Captcha, a bot detection system, is famous for Google reCAPTCHA, but various companies and organizations other than Google provide Captcha. One of these, hCaptcha, is said to have occupied 15% market share, the largest of which is provided by companies other than Google.

Captcha is a system that identifies humans or robots using image authentication by reading and entering characters from images or selecting multiple images according to a presented subject. Recapcha, provided by Google, started as a part of improving the accuracy of recognizing images in e-books. Currently, version 3, Recapcha v3, is available.

However, in early 2020, Google planned to pay for the provision of recapcha, and Cloudflare, which provides CDN service accordingly, made it clear to switch to hCAPTCHA service from Recapcha in April 2020.

According to HCapcha, most of the 15% market share acquired by this service and BotStop was taken from Recapcha. HCapcha believes that its market share has increased as many companies have given up on Recapcha and started to switch to other Capcha services according to the review of Google’s recapcha fee payment.

In addition, HCapcha said that Google Recapcha consumes vast amounts of behavioral data to determine whether users are humans or robots, and that security products provided by advertising companies are similar to advertising products. It is revealed that the bot detection function was selected because the HCapcha service was excellent in terms of personal information protection.

In addition, as more personal information protection is required according to the EU general data protection rule GDPR and the California Consumer Protection Act CCPA, it is reported that more companies choose HCapcha service over Recapcha. In fact, Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince said that the reason for choosing HCapcha service as an alternative to recapcha is that it does not sell personal information and that the performance exceeds expectations in A/B tests. It has a powerful solution for users with accessibility difficulties, such as blind people, and it is reducing the frequency of capchas that support personal information protection routes, and that it works in areas where Google is blocked, and the HCapcha team responded quickly.
