BMW’s next-generation electric vehicle flagship model

The BMW iX is a next-generation electric vehicle that was announced during the virtual BMW NextGen 2020 held on November 11 (local time). It will be launched in 2021 as a new pure electric vehicle flagship that has been called iNext.

BMW iXsms 5tpeo e-driving technology was adopted and the grill design was changed, but the size is the same as the current X5 or X6 SUV. The range is said to be 483km and the zero-back is said to be less than 5 seconds.

BMW says it will have more than 1 million electric vehicles running on the road by the end of 2021. Currently, 13% of all BMW and Mini models registered in Europe are pure electric vehicles or plug-in hybrids. However, this rate is expected to increase to 50% by 2030.

There are many other electric vehicles in the BMW lineup in 2021, but the most notable is the iX. The next-generation edrive system will be adopted in the i4, which is expected to be released in 2021. BMW is also experimenting with three new motors, including a maximum output of 720 hp, using a 5-series vehicle.

For charging, it takes 40 minutes to charge from 10% to 80% with up to 200kW AC fast charging. The fast charging station can charge up to 120 kilometers in 10 minutes.

The iX is equipped with a standard drive assist system and a large display including a head-up display, a 12.3-inch digital meter display and a 14.9-inch control display. It also reflects the philosophy expressed as Shy tech. It refers to a technique that is rarely seen behind the scenes but only appears when necessary. It also intends to reflect the futuristic interior to ensure that the driver can also rest in the car, which provides a lounge-like atmosphere and comfortable long-distance travel as an interior to secure a wider and more relaxed feel.

BMW announced that it will open a new pilot plant near Munich in 2022 to develop and manufacture its own battery cells. With this plant, BMW will cover the entire electric drivetrain process.

iX also has a built-in 5G communication function. In theory, communication with low bandwidth latency can be realized between the BMW Clouds. It is of great significance in that it can contribute to realizing the C-V2X solution by car. Related information can be found here .
