The Smithsonian Museum is releasing augmented reality effects that can be used on Instagram cameras. You can see various exhibitions on Instagram, such as mammoth skeleton specimens displayed in the museum and the space shuttle Discovery.
It can be manipulated by zooming in and enjoying it from various angles. To see it in action, simply open the Effects tab in the Smithsonian Museum’s official account profile and select the model you want to see. You can place it in the desired position with the camera and enjoy it.
The Smithsonian Museum unveiled 2.8 million 2D and 3D models in its collection in early 2020, and this time using these data to create an AR model. In addition to the Smithsonian Museum, places such as the Palace of Versailles are also showing AR effects through Instagram.
Of course, Instagram isn’t the first app to deal with AR in partnership with art galleries or museums. Google Arts & Culture works with the London Museum of Natural History and the Darwin Museum to allow viewing of ancient creature AR models, and Google search also responds to AR displays such as insects, dinosaurs, and animals.
