Amazon expands game program to increase employee efficiency

It is said that Amazon is promoting the efficiency of the fulfillment center by expanding FC Games, a program that can relieve the boredom of warehouse operations with games.

Amazon has been working over the years to automate many elements of its warehouse operations using robots. The ultimate goal of this effort is to eliminate repetitive and dangerous tasks. However, at the present time, robots and humans are still working together.

However, working with robots tends to be monotonous because warehouse employees are often forced into mechanical roles and require fewer movements and more repetitions. Amazon’s internal research shows that in a warehouse automated by robots, human employees are more likely to be injured than warehouses where only humans work, so monotonous work worsens work efficiency.

Therefore, since 2019, Amazon has been promoting a program called FC Games that introduces a game that allows you to obtain a unique currency used for shopping on Amazon in order to eliminate the boredom of warehouse work. The game introduced by Amazon can be played on a screen placed in a warehouse with simple graphics similar to previous Nintendo games such as Super Mario Bros. Participation in the game is optional, but it is said that the game is quite popular among employees.

In addition, it is said that Tamajira is an electronic pet game similar to Tamagotchi that can give penguins and dinosaurs a reward for performing various tasks. The game doesn’t make electronic pets contributing to warehouse operations, but it also says that pet growth can be scored to compete with other warehouse workers.

According to reports, Amazon is introducing new implementations to fulfillment centers in at least 20 states in the United States. Amazon said that its employees are enjoying the option of participating in the game, and they are pleased to receive feedback from case studies so far to introduce the program in more warehouses.
