Micro electrical stimulation to the brain… Helps improve game skills?

Research shows that electric stimulation can be used to significantly improve esports skills.

This study was conducted by the University of Limerick and the Irish Software Research Center. Using Counter Strike (Global Offensive), which has reigned as a popular game for the past 20 years, the test participant conducted a mission to shoot and eliminate targets quickly and accurately.

Before training, participants were stimulated for 20 minutes with transcranial direct current electrical stimulation and a headset giving tDSC. However, some of the participating sites received fake treatments, not electrical stimulation. As a result, it is said that the novice gamer who received tDCS before training had a significant improvement in specific work efficiency on the 5th than the novice gamer who trained without being stimulated. In addition, when comparing the group that received tDCS and the group that did not, it is said that the group that received electrical stimulation clearly showed high ability when shooting targets on the left and right of aiming.

The research team explains that the fact that there was an impact on the performance of left and right subjects that required controlled movement supports the claim that tDCS has the potential to accelerate complex motor performance improvement rather than simple reactions.

In the experimental results, the research team revealed that tDCS can be helpful in the early stages of work learning, suggesting that there is a possibility of benefiting in fields other than e-sports, such as rehabilitation of stroke patients. Related information can be found here.
