Amazon announced on May 10 (local time) that it has introduced a new authentication system, Amazon One, to Amazon Go, New York, in September 2020. This is the first time this system has been introduced to stores outside of Washington State.
Amazon One is a system that verifies identity by authenticating palm prints. If you insert a credit card into the Amazon One device and register your palm print, the credit card and palm print are linked. After registration, you can make a touchless payment by placing your palm on the dedicated device.
At the time of announcement, it was only introduced to two Amazon Go stores located in Seattle, Washington, but later expanded the scope of introduction to Lynnwood, Bellevue, and Redmond, Washington, in addition to Seattle, and not only Amazon Go, but also Amazon 4-Star or Amazon. It will be expanded to Amazon Books. In addition, it was introduced in April 2021 by Whole Foods, a supermarket chain that Amazon acquired and owned under its subsidiary in 2017. The first store we introduced was the Seattle Madison Broadway store. It will be introduced in other stores in the future.
Since the introduction was started outside of Washington this time, the scope of the introduction can be expected to expand further in the future. Amazon is planning to offer not only commercial stores, but also stadiums and office buildings. Related information can be found here.
