The Zigbee Alliance, which provides the development and maintenance of IoT open global standards, announced on May 11 (local time) that it will rebrand Project Connected Home over IP (CHIP) announced at the end of 2019 as Matter. Therefore, the Zigbee Alliance itself is also renamed CSA (Connectivity Standards Alliance).
CJIP is a working group to develop and promote a new smart home connection standard with the participation of large IT companies such as Google, Amazon, and Apple. It has been moving towards standard practice for a year and a half since its establishment. Various smart home devices have appeared so far, but it is easy to see that there are differences in connection methods including manufacturer’s own specifications, and a separate device is required to connect them in the operating app. This can lead to inconveniences in the smart home. Matter aims to solve this problem and to interconnect various smart devices.

The three arrows, the symbol of Matter, appear on products or packaging that have been certified Matter. This allows companies and consumers to choose mater-certified products from a variety of brands. The first mater compatible product will be released in the second half of 2021. The first devices include lighting and electric door locks, sensors, and TVs. Related information can be found here.
