HTC unveils two new virtual reality headsets

HTC announced its new virtual reality headsets, VIVE Pro 2 and VIVE Focus 3, during the new product presentation VIVECON 2021 on May 12th.

Vibe Pro 2 not only responds to various pupillary distances by adjusting the distance between the two displays, but also has a headband that allows you to easily adjust the length to fit various heads. The headband part is equipped with a high-resolution certified speaker with an amplifier that enables three-dimensional sound.

The viewing angle is 120 degrees close to that of a human, and the refresh rate is up to 120Hz, realizing smooth rendering. The display is a dual 2.8-inch LCD panel, and the resolution is 4896×2448 for both eyes. The minimum PC specification to connect is Intel Core i5-4590 or AMD Ryzen 1500 CPU, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD Ryzen RX 480 for GPU. RAM is 8GB, DisplayPort 1.2, USB 3.0, operating system is Windows 10.

On the other hand, the standalone virtual reality headset Vibe Focus 3 has a viewing angle of 120 degrees and a resolution of 4896 × 2448, which is the same as the Vibe Pro 2, but the screen refresh rate is up to 90 Hz and the built-in processor is Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 for 5G.

The purpose is business. It is equipped with a mechanism that can easily remove the headset cushion for frequent attachment/detachment or long-term use expected in the field, and a design that can maintain hygiene was chosen assuming a site where multiple people use one headset. It has a 26.6Wh battery inside and can be easily replaced. The continuous use time is 2 hours.

The included controller supports 6 degrees of freedom, intuitively controlled through ergonomically arranged buttons, triggers, and touch sensors, and the maximum driving time is 15 hours. Training simulators, 3D design design, and remote collaboration in a virtual reality space are introduced as examples of use. Related information can be found here.
