The Boring Company (TBC) is a tunnel excavation company that was created when Elon Musk was tired of traffic jams on his way to work from the Los Angeles airport and had the idea to build a commuting tunnel. However, the evaluation of the Las Vegas Underground Tunnel, which was first opened to the public, was not good, and as a result, TBC may consider the future use of the tunnel to be used by people to reduce working hours, rather than to specialize in freight transportation.
According to the report, TBC is writing down the idea of creating a transport route dedicated to transport and running battery-powered freighters by including a 6.4m tunnel close to a ship instead of the 3.65m wide as before in the investor document, and making room for cargo containers. .
The TBC initiative also included freight transport from the outset. So, it might not be strange if TBC really does a freight transport tunnel business in the future. It can be said that the company was already able to sell flamethrowers or promote the company in the Las Vegas underground tunnels.
Meanwhile, TBC’s 2018 LA tunnel plan is being sued for having an impact on the environment, and the atmosphere that there is no future as expected for a new transportation system called Loop is becoming dominant.
The system built at the Las Vegas Convention Center has the potential to transport only 1,200 people, far less than the 4,000 people initially advertised by TBC, so there are opinions that the subway might be better.
If it is used for cargo transportation rather than a congestion avoidance tunnel, it is expected to contribute to alleviating major road traffic jams as well as smooth logistics, and TBC will be able to secure more customers. However, as the scale of tunnel excavation increases, the cost required for safety measures may increase, so TBC points out that it is necessary to estimate carefully.
