Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 888+, a 5G mobile platform, at the MWC 2021 keynote.
The basic specification is a top-level mobile processor that strengthens the CPU core clock and AI processing while continuing the Snapdragon 888 announced in December last year. The basic configuration is Kryo 680 CPU, Adreno 660 GPU, 5G modem X60 5G, and Hexagon 780 for AI engine. The CPU clock is up to 2.84~3GHz, and the AI performance has been enhanced from 26TOPS to 32TOPS. Examples of the use of the enhanced AI engine include chatting in-game, real-time translation, semantic segmentation of ultra-high-resolution photos and videos that maintain clarity while suppressing the amount of streaming video data, and intelligent noise cancellation during voice and video calls.
Products adopting Snapdragon 888+ are expected to ship from the third quarter of this year. Asus gaming smartphones such as ROG Phone, Honor Magic 3, Xiaomi, Motorola, and Vivo are said to be adopted in high-end smartphones. Related information can be found here.
