Israeli food technology company Future Meat Technologies has announced that it has opened the world’s first industrial cultured meat production facility in Rehovot, a city located 20 kilometers south of Tel Aviv.
Future Meat Technology is a food technology company that develops a distribution platform for directly producing meat from animal cells without raising animals or using genetically modified crops. According to the announcement, the facility has the capacity to produce 500 kg of cultured meat, equivalent to 5,000 hamburgers per day. It is already possible to produce chicken, pork and lamb, and soon beef production will be possible. This is an explanation that the production cycle is 20 times faster than that of existing livestock.
Founder Professor Jacob Namias said the production facility would be a real game changer, saying that it would be faster than market expectations for cultured meat to cost less than or equal to the cost of conventional products. In addition, this facility is demonstrating the media regeneration technology developed independently by the company, realizing a production density 10 times higher than the industry standard. It is said that the goal is to produce and secure the next-generation food of the future.
The Future Meat Technology production process is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80% and reduce land use by 99% compared to conventional meat production, reducing freshwater consumption by 96%.
