Fakespot is an app for iOS and Android that literally detects lies, detects fake reviews written by malicious sellers, and alerts you before you buy. The app developer had previously provided a Chrome extension with similar features, but this app was also introduced as an app as the number of people shopping on smartphones surged.
Currently, this app is only available on the Amazon mobile site, but in the future, Walmart, eBay, Best Buy, Sephora, etc. will be updated to support shopping.
When viewing Amazon using FakeSpot, there are two big differences in the experience of viewing Amazon in a normal app and in a browser. One is to tell you whether the seller review is problematic, both for the product the user is viewing and for the seller’s entire catalog. The other is to tell you how many fakes are mixed in the reviews even if the product has good reviews.
According to the developer, it has the ability to train AI based on 8 billion reviews posted on the web and detect fake reviews. When we analyze reviews, we look for patterns that are suspicious of counterfeitability, such as awkward spelling and grammar, or dozens of positive reviews clustered together.
Of course, it is only AI that judges to the end, so it is good to evaluate product reviews to purchase while referring to the results. Related information can be found here.
