Apple’s digital driver’s license delayed to 2022

It is said that Apple’s digital driver’s license, which was scheduled for late 2021, has been converted to support starting in 2022 through its official page.

In June 2021, it was reported that Apple would be pushing to digitize driver’s licenses for cars, and later in 2021, some states in the United States would be able to add them to their official app, Wallet. On September 1, 2021, it was officially announced that digital driving licenses could be used at airports in eight states: Arizona, Connecticut, Georgia, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Oklahoma and Utah.

The announcement of specific state names showed that progress was being made smoothly for implementation in late 2021. However, they recently updated the iOS 15 page and added the phrase “Coming early 2022” for digital driver’s licenses.

It is unknown when this sentence was added, but according to the web archive log records, it did not exist on November 16, 2021. According to reports, the digital driver’s license isn’t even included in iOS 15.2 beta 3, which is currently in the latest beta.

The iOS 15 features page lists the digital driver’s license as Available late 2021, so the digital driver’s license will appear on each Apple page in late 2021 or early 2022, but projects involving the state have traditionally been on holiday. It is difficult to believe that this project will be completed within the year of 2021 as it is difficult to complete in the season. Related information can be found here.
