Epic Games Acquires Music Game Studio

Epic Games announced on November 23 (local time) that it has acquired Hamonix, a traditional game development studio known for its music games that use dedicated controllers that mimic musical instruments such as guitar heroes and rock bands. The amount of the acquisition was not disclosed, and Harmonix said that it will work with Epic Games to provide its own music game experience to Metaverse.

According to Harmonix, even after the acquisition, existing game support will continue, and Rockband 4 will be released after Siege 25, and the popular DJ game FUSER event will be held. Epic Games and Harmonix also plan to make music or gameplay for Fortnite, but details about this have not been revealed.

Fortnite is also known for collaborating with artists to hold virtual concerts in-game. Recently, Ariana Grande participated or held a Travis Scott event. The Travis Scott event drew attention, with the number of players connected to the game exceeding 12.3 million.

Since Epic Games is running its own store, games such as Steam are not provided. It is said that existing Harmonix games such as Fuser will continue to be sold on Steam. Related information can be found here.
