Renault’s flying car concept ‘Air 4’

Renault announced the Air 4 (AIR4), which completed the Renault 4, a hatchback car of the past, into a flying car in cooperation with the American design company The Arsenale. It is a commemoration of the Renault 4, which celebrated its 60th anniversary, but at the same time, it was produced as a concept model that represents the appearance of Renault 60 years later.

Renault explains that the Air 4 symbolizes independence and freedom and was born from the recognition that the world above our heads will not be blocked even in the future increase in traffic or life chaos. The body, located in the center of the four rotors, is all made of carbon fiber. It is possible to get people inside, but if you look closely, you can see that there are no doors. The entire vehicle body is lifted from the rear.

The Air 4 supports a total of 381 kg with a thrust of 95 kg per rotor, and the maximum speed is 93.3 km/h. The original Renault 4 was launched in 1961 with a 603cc engine, and sold more than 8 million units in over 30 years in more than 100 countries around the world. Currently, Renault is developing a version of the 2025 4 converted into an electric vehicle (Renault 4ever EV), but the Air 4 body design may be a hint for the final design of this electric vehicle. The Air 4 is scheduled to be exhibited at the Renault Museum in Paris in 2022, as well as in Miami, New York, and Macau. Related information can be found here.
