IBM announced that it has completed the acquisition of Red Hat, open source cloud software. The acquisition took place in the form of IBM’s acquisition of Red Hat common stock at $190 per share, with a scale of $34 billion.
According to IBM, the two sides agreed to acquire all issued shares of Red Hat on October 28 last year. IBM has been a candidate for Linux since its inception, and has also cooperated with Red Hat to help develop and grow the enterprise sector. The cooperative relationship between the two sides is over 20 years.
It is for this reason that IBM Chairman Genie Rometty described the acquisition as a development of a partnership. In the future, it is said that while maintaining Red Hat’s independence and neutrality, it will not change that it will continue to act firmly while maintaining open source.
