On August 20 (local time), Google announced that it will be able to download the lightweight version of its app, Google Go, from the global Google Play store. Any operating system after Android 5.0 Lollipop can be used on Android smartphones.
Google Go is one of the lightweight apps that can be used even on low-end smartphones. In 2017, it was released for use in some developing countries and Android Go terminals. In addition to this app, the lightweight version has released Google Map Go, Gmail Go, YouTube Go, and Gallery Go.
This app has a 7MB file size and 25MB after installation. Considering that a regular Google app is 235MB, it’s much lighter. It also has a web app shortcut function, so even installing the app can reduce the pressure on storage space. In addition, even if the connection is lost during the search, you can get the result as it is after returning. In addition to the general search function, you can also perform voice search, Google lens, image, and GIF search. Another feature not found in the Google app is the ability to read web pages. If you click the play icon at the bottom of the screen, it reads the web page you are currently viewing. Of course, you can also pause or change the reading speed.
This app can be expected to be utilized in places where the internet connection speed is slow or unstable. Related information can be found here .
