Huawei, Russia OS to be installed on its tablet?

With the Huawei exclusion campaign in the US, Google has stopped supporting Android for Huawei. As a result, it was reported that Huawei could not use Google services such as Google Play on its devices, and that it would adopt its own developed operating system on its devices. However, Huawei plans to adopt the Russian operating system, Aurora, for its tablets.

According to reports, Huawei is in discussions with the Russian side about plans to install the Russian operating system Aurora on 360,000 Huawei tablets for the 2020 census in Russia. Information providers say this is a pilot project. Huawei also admitted that it is in discussions with the Russian communications authorities, but did not provide details.

Huawei said that there is a possibility that sales in the smartphone segment in 2019 could decrease by $10 billion year-on-year due to US trade regulations. It is also urgent to find an operating system that will replace Android. Another source said that Huawei is interested in the project and that tablet samples that can actually be used already exist, suggesting that a tablet with Aurora is already in the usable stage.

Aurora changed its brand by acquiring the Sailfish operating system by Rostelecom, a Russian state-owned telecommunications operator. Currently, there are no mobile devices equipped with Aurora. Rostelecom is expected to provide a tablet for use in the census in Russia in October 2020, and it is estimated that it intends to put its operating system, Aurora.

Rostelecom is reviewing various options for collaboration with Huawei with the participation of Russian telecommunications authorities, but did not provide details. Related information can be found here .
