Uber used to charge an additional $1 of the Safe Ride Fee when using UberX. Of course, it is currently abolished. The safe boarding fee was literally adopted as a necessary cost considering safety, but it seems to have no meaning. According to foreign media reports, New York Times reporter Mike Isaac exposed Uber’s lies through his book (Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber).
The safe boarding fee was once introduced by Uber. According to Uber’s official blog at the time, the cost required to improve service safety was used to verify the identity of the driver, regularly check the car, safety education for the driver, and develop safety functions in the app and for insurance. Usually, it is 1 dollar, but some places cost 2 dollars and 50 cents depending on the region.
Uber has earned $500 million from it so far. However, there is a testimony that the dollar collected from users was not used for safety. In the book, an employee from Uber said it was a scam. Prior to the original disclosure in this book, there was a case in which Uber had a lawsuit over the safety boarding fee, claiming that it could not meet the standard for commercial vehicles due to insufficient identification or safety measures.
Uber has been in business for 10 years. Scandals such as sexual harassment issues, information leakage, and driver strikes are continuing. Of course, nevertheless, as Uber grows steadily, Uber is attracting attention in many ways. Related information can be found here .
