Qualcomm announced that it will integrate 5G communication capabilities into processors for mid-range at the high end. Accordingly, in 2020, processors from numerous manufacturers are expected to support 5G communication.
According to the announcement, 5G communication will be integrated into the 6-series and 7-series processors for high-end 8 series and mid-range in the future. Smartphones equipped with these processors are Oppo, Xiaomi, Vivo, Motorola, and Nokia. It will be released through LG Electronics. Of course, recently reported that Samsung Electronics will introduce a Snapdragon 855 terminal incorporating a 5G modem.
According to Qualcomm, the integrated 5G communication function supports multi-SIM that can use all bands such as millimeter wave at sub 6GHz and TDD and FDD. Currently, 5G solutions for smartphones require a separate 5G modem, like the Qualcomm X50, in addition to the processor. In addition, Qualcomm’s upcoming X55 modem using 7nm manufacturing process realizes faster communication and power savings, but product shipment is expected in 2020. Qualcomm’s latest integrated 5G system and 5G modem will use the Snapdragon 5G modem-RF system that integrates an RF transceiver and RF front end.
Qualcomm will release 6, 7, 8 series Snapdragons in 5G integrated and non-integrated versions by next year. The 5G integrated version 7 series will be released in the fourth quarter of this year, and the 6 series will be released in the second half of 2020. Details of the 5G integrated version 8 series will be released later this year. Related information can be found here .
