99.995% light absorption rate’the blackest black material’

The MIT research team revealed that they accidentally developed the darkest material so far. There is a topic that it has been developed with the blackest material so far, but the development this time is said to be 10 times blacker than the blackest material reported.

This material is mainly made of carbon nanotubes. To develop a material with high electrical and thermal properties, the research team grew carbon nanotubes on aluminum foil etched with chlorine. It is said that the carbon nanotubes are arranged vertically and have an extremely high light absorption rate of 99.995% or more.

The blackest material so far is Ventablack, which is 99.96%. The darkest material developed by MIT was exhibited at The Redemption of Vanity at the New York Stock Exchange. It wasn’t just a black object, but a natural diamond, worth $2 million, was coated with this material to make it black.

Right now, it’s only useful enough to see a black hole like this, but experts say it could be used as an optical blind to remove unwanted reflections, for example to help space telescopes discover alien planets. The material discovered this time is 10 times blacker than that reported so far, but the blackest color is said to be a goal to be pursued constantly. If someone finds a blacker material and explains the mechanism behind it, he will be able to produce the perfect black color. For reference, Surrey NanoSystems, which manufactures Venta Black, is also developing a second-generation material, claiming that it is blacker than the current material. I am curious about this market that is still full of vitality.
