Airbus has unveiled the Bird of Prey, a concept aircraft that incorporates an organic bird-like design. It was announced during the RIAT (Royal International Air Tattoo), an air show held in the UK, and was designed with biomimicry technology based on real creatures. The tips of the wings are spread out like the wings of a real bird, and the tail is also visible.
Propeller is used for propulsion. According to Airbus, fuel consumption can be reduced by 30-50% compared to conventional airplanes. Energy saving is not only earth-friendly, but also a variety of advantages such as flexible route setting can be expected.
Airbus officials also revealed that they learned that nature is the best textbook for design through biomimetics during the A350XWB research process. Related information can be found here .
