Wing begins delivery of drones for general home use

Wing, a company affiliated with Alphabet, announced that it succeeded in delivering products by starting delivery of drones for general home use.

This drone delivery was only made in Christiansburg, Virginia, but it is said that it is the first time in the United States that a drone has been used to deliver a product to a general home door. If you want drone delivery, you can order it through the Wing-specific app. In addition, the pack containing the product is lowered from the drone to the yard or at a designated location, and the consumer receives it.

Wing is working with companies such as delivery company FedEx and pharmacy chain Walsgreen, delivering cargo or over-the-counter drugs by drone. According to the company, local retailer Walsgreen products arrive within minutes of ordering.

Wing has been conducting delivery experiments using drones overseas since 2014. In Austria and Finland, commercial services have been launched with national approval. Drone delivery in the United States started by UPS, a large transportation company, to medical institutions, but it is limited to the last, so Wing was the first for general home use.
