Smart speaker market, Amazon↑Google↓

Speaking of smart speakers, the impression that Amazon and Google are driving this market is strong. However, while Amazon is steadily increasing its market share, Google is found to suffer from sluggish shipments.

According to a market research firm Canalis report, Google’s smart speaker shipments in the third quarter of 2019 were 3.5 million units, ranking fourth in the world. In the second quarter, it fell from 2nd to 3rd after being pushed by China’s Baidu, but the ranking went down one more step. Compared to the same period of the previous year, sales decreased by 40%.

It is also not that the smart speaker market is shrinking. The total market shipment was 28.6 million units, up 44.9% from the same period last year. Amazon shipped 1,04 million units, and China’s Alibaba ranked second with 3.9 million units. Alibaba is steadily increasing shipments in partnership with brands such as Starbucks, Budweiser and Oreo.

Google services may be more disadvantageous in terms of shipments as they are not available in China, where the market is large. By looking at the shipments of Baidu and Alibaba, which are sold only in the Chinese market, you can see how big the Chinese market is.

In the midst of this, Amazon steadily maintained the top spot. It shipped 1,0400,000 units and recorded a market share of 36.6%. In the case of Echo Show 5, it was found that it contributed significantly to Amazon’s success, accounting for 16% of Amazon’s shipments. Related information can be found here .

I am curious about this market that is still full of vitality.
