Your driver’s license now fits in your smartphone?

During the Snapdragon Tech Summit held by Qualcomm in Hawaii, Google and Qualcomm representatives will appear on the stage together, revealing that the ID card will be mounted on Android R, the next Android operating system to be released in the second half of 2020. .

Qualcomm’s next smartphone SoC, Snapdragon 865, is said to be the first SoC to support Android Identity Credential API (Android API) to be installed in Android R. In other words, Android R allows you to store your driver’s license or other ID as digital data in a safe form on your smartphone.

This API was reported in March, and it has taken measures to prevent unauthorized access or counterfeiting by safely displaying digital identification cards. Of course, you can see your ID even when the battery is low. The Snapdragon 865 is expected to be the first SoC to support this API in collaboration with Google with high security.

At the Snapdragon Tech Summit, not only the driver’s license but also the passport were digitalized. Of course, the demo is only a demo, but we can expect to enter the stage of digitizing ID cards following cashless. Android R is expected to release a preview version in March 2020 and release it as the official version of Android 11 in the second half of the year. Related information can be found here .
