Hyperloop, when connecting between Chicago and Pittsburgh…

Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HTT) has submitted a feasibility study report for the 760km section from Chicago, USA to Cleveland to Pittsburgh. According to this, it is revealed that investment of up to 25 billion dollars in construction costs can yield sufficient profits.

The railway between Chicago and Pittsburgh currently takes 10 hours, the freeway takes 8 hours, and the flight route takes about 90 minutes. On the other hand, it is revealed that it takes less than 70 minutes with Hyperloop.

Hyperloop is the concept of Elon Musk and is a means of transportation that allows sound speed. Of course, this plan is not this high-speed performance. Realistically, this route requires a curve, so it is necessary to slow down. In the report, the average speed of Hyperloop is 707km/h.

In terms of fares, the report states the Chicago-Cleveland fare is $40, while the cost page provides two-thirds of the fare from O’Hare Airport to Pittsburgh International Airport, or $230. Anyway, it can be understood by explaining that it is clear that you can travel cheaper than airfare. In addition, according to the plan, as cargo transportation is also included, profits can be expected accordingly.

Of course, there are still many things to overcome in the construction of the proposed route. The survey for environmental impact assessment alone is expected to take at least 2023. In addition, land acquisition and coordination with residents, tunnel excavation and tube, ford preparation, and even coping with political controversy such as criticism of tax input.

Anyway, if completed, it could be an opportunity for the hyperloop to expand to the transportation network more widely. The next step in the plan is to extend routes from Chicago to Milwaukee and Minneapolis and from Cleveland to Buffalo, Columbus and Baltimore. At the third stage, it can be expanded further to extend to Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington and Canada, leading to a hyperloop network to Toronto, Montreal, and Quebec.
