Facebook will reduce Google’s influence on its next-generation devices and start developing its own operating system.
According to reports, the Facebook operating system development is led by former Microsoft engineer Mark Lucovsky, who is known as a Windows NT co-developer, and it is not based on Android, but is developed from scratch. Of course, it is not yet known when the operating system will be completed and which products will be installed, but Facebook said that it is aiming to mount on AR devices so far.
Andrew Bosworth, vice president of Facebook’s AR and VR division, explained the reason for the development by saying that he wants to secure his own home in next-generation devices, but to do so, not just leave it to the market and competitors.
This is not the first time Facebook has reviewed its own operating system. It has also developed its own operating system for Facebook Home, a Facebook launcher app for Android that was previously released. Eventually, it was released for Android, but a prototype was also developed at this time.
Facebook is also working on developing brain computer interfaces. It is said that the refrigerator-sized device has been reduced to the size of the palm of the hand, but it will still take 5 to 10 years to be released for consumers. The development is also focused on AR headsets. In this regard, it can be said that all options are being reviewed, focusing on next-generation AR. Related information can be found here .
