China’s three smartphone companies “Global deployment of new file transfer system”

OPPO, Vivo, and Xiaomi announced that three Chinese smartphone makers will launch a Peer-to-Peer Transmission Alliance and cooperate with each other to realize a fast and seamless wireless file transfer system. did.

This alliance was announced in August 2019, and has been conducting public beta since then, but it is now planning to end beta testing and deploy globally. The new file transfer system can easily transfer photos, videos, music and documents between mobile devices without the need for third-party applications or internet connection. This is in line with the advent of the 5G era when various file sizes are expected to increase.

It uses Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for communication. After pairing with Bluetooth, data transmission actually uses Wi-Fi P2P technology. The average transfer speed is 20MB/sec without interrupting the Wi-Fi connection even during Wi-Fi P2P file transfer. Vibo plans to adopt this file transfer system on its own devices from February 2020.

Similar features are included in Apple’s AirDrop for file transfers without internet and Files by Google on Android devices. The efforts of these three companies aim to make file transfer easier and faster. The alliance said it welcomes the participation of other companies to expand the ecosystem.
