Qualcomm’s 3 4G Snapdragon SoCs

Qualcomm unveiled three models of the Snapdragon 720G, 662 and 460 mobile processors at a press event in New Delhi.

These products support fast 4G communication and high-speed Wi-Fi standards such as Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1. It is also possible to acquire location information through NavIC, an Indian positioning satellite. The top model, the Snapdragon 720G, is equipped with an 8-core CPU operating at up to 2.3GHz and supports Snapdragon Elite Gaming, which optimizes the hardware and software for games. This explains that it provides a smooth HDR gaming experience.

In addition, it can drive a display with a resolution of 2520×1080 and a high refresh rate, and supports 4K video recording through a 192-megapixel sensor. Built-in X15 LTE modem enables communication with a maximum download speed of 800Mbps. Inside, a Hexagon 692 DSP in charge of AI processing is installed.

The Snapdragon 662 is an 8-core processor with an operating clock of up to 2GHz. Equipped with the Spectra 340T, it is possible to support 3 cameras and smooth camera switching. It also supports HEIF format with excellent compression performance. As for the communication function, X11 LTE modem is built-in, so it can communicate up to 390Mbps downlink. In addition, the Snapdragon 460 boosts CPU and GPU performance from the previous generation 4 series processors, increasing performance by 70 and 60%, respectively. The entire system realized 2 times higher speed and the communication function specification is the same as that of the Snapdragon 662.

Snapdragon 720G-equipped products are expected to appear in the first quarter of 2020, and 662 and 460-equipped terminals will appear by the end of the year. This year is the time for 5G to begin full-fledged deployment, but the product announced this time can be said to be a new processor lineup that meets the demand for 4G-enabled devices that still have considerable demand.
