U.S. self-driving shuttle begins test operation

The Capri project, run by 17 UK companies, Heathrow Airport, West University and Bristol University, has begun mass-transport experiments using self-driving pods that run automatically.

The unmanned pod operates a shuttle service on the premises of a shopping mall in Gloucestershire, southwest England. Aecom, a telecommunications infrastructure company that participated in the experiment, said the reason for the test by saying that for the project to be successful, it is important for ordinary citizens to experience mobility services that will change the way they actually ride and travel.

Unmanned pods use sensors, radar, and camera images to drive in areas crowded with pedestrians, strollers, and bicycles. In the second half of 2020, a test run on the road will be conducted to confirm the reaction of the general public to the unmanned autonomous pod. Reportedly, it is expected that unmanned self-driving pods that can be easily operated with a mobile app will be distributed in British cities. Related information can be found here .
