During the 2018 developer event (Google I/O 2018), Google announced Digital Wellbeing as a standard smartphone management function installed on Android 9.0 or higher Android devices. In October 2019, we launched Digital Wellbeing Experiments, which recently added three new apps.
First, Screen Stopwatch is a live wallpaper that displays the time you use your smartphone in real time. The smartphone usage time can be viewed on the digital well-being screen, but it allows you to check at a glance without opening the menu individually. When the screen is locked, the count stops and restarts by unlocking.
Activity Bubbles is also a live wallpaper that displays smartphone usage time. However, this is not a number but a visual indicator. Each time you unlock it, a new bubble is created and gradually grows while using your smartphone. When the screen locks and growth stops and unlocks, it repeats creating new bubbles.
Finally, Envelope was created by Special Projects, which made Paper Phone, not Google product. It temporarily transforms a smartphone into a simple and calm device to help break out of the digital world.
Specifically, only the phone and camera can be used by covering the envelope exclusively for Pixel 3a. Since the dedicated app is running on the terminal, it is not necessary to cover the envelope, but to use the terminal, the envelope must be torn and other functions will be used.
Apart from the envelope, the other functions are unique and practical as a background screen. If you don’t realize you’re using too many smartphones, it might be a good idea to visualize your usage time through an application like this one. Related information can be found here .
