YC expands startup school program

Silicon Valley’s top-tier accelerator Y Combinator has been running a 10-week startup school program that was once a year, several times starting in 2020.

Startup School, run by YCombinator, is an online start-up lecture that has been held since 2017.It is a free online class where YCombinator partners, YC and founders learn how to attract investment and how to develop startup ideas. .

The course, which has been completed by more than 40,000 students over the past three years, will be held several times a year from 2020. The 8-week program will also be changed during the 10-week program period. The other day, only students who had been admitted were allowed to take courses, but in 2018, after making a mistake in sending a notice of admission to the failed team, the criteria for enrollment were lowered.

It was decided to allow all applicants to take classes, and to modify the program to focus more on small group activities rather than individual mantoring. This is in response to a request not to place restrictions on participants’ qualifications.

However, YC explained that the 2020 lecture video will not change significantly from 2019. In addition, several lectures will be updated and the course structure will be slightly changed. Group video chat sessions will be reduced, and weekly Q&A sessions will be held with YC partners. There was no exact answer as to how many more times the school would run. The first 2020 class opened in January.

The Grant program is still undecided. The other day, students who completed the course could apply for a grant program that could receive from $10,000 to $150,000. YC said that it is still in the process of deciding how to run the program due to the multiple runs of the school program.

YC also released figures related to startup schools. Of the 4,1777 people who applied for a startup school, 1,0193 completed the program, 57% were founders working full-time startups, and 62% were founders outside the United States.

Startup school also means the possibility to enter the actual YC accelerator program. The advantage of doing everything online is that people from all over the world can enter YC without any effort to come directly to the United States.

Courses starting from January 20th can be applied until February 5th, and detailed news can be found here .
