Germany’s Fraunhofer Institute of Digital Media has developed a microphone that is mounted on the roof of a vehicle. To help drivers know what’s going on around the car. Until now, automakers have been pursuing tranquility and blocking outside noise for a pleasant driving experience. However, this product is a microphone that allows you to hear outside sounds in a quiet car.
This product is equipped with several microphones that can capture all-round sound. The type, direction, and distance of sound collected through the system installed inside the vehicle are analyzed through machine learning. For example, it can also know how far the ambulance is and from which direction it is approaching, allowing the driver to give detailed instructions on which direction to avoid in minutes.
An ambulance, a police car, or a fire truck are easy examples, but you can think of other uses. For example, in an area with a lot of children’s voices, you can see that there are schools and parks nearby, so you can slow down and drive. It may be able to detect irregular sounds to inform vehicle breakdowns, or to detect sounds that require assistance, allowing emergency calls to be made.
There is not a lot of information obtained through sound. Rather than opening a window and listening directly to the driver’s ear, a microphone and artificial intelligence can collect and analyze information. Related information can be found here .
