ROBORACE is an AI driverless car race that runs wild at a speed of 320 km/h. The design is directed by German concept designer Daniel Simon, who was in charge of vehicle design in the films Tron: Legacy and Captain America. Perhaps that is why they are taking a fairly futuristic design.
Vehicles participating in this race use the same chassis and basic software. However, each team can make a difference by tweaking it little by little or by improving the algorithm. Normally in racing competitions, the driver’s skill is revealed as a difference, but in the Robo Race, programmers fight fiercely.
For this racing development, two vehicles are used: a completely unmanned Robocar, and a DevBot with manned driving to try out new technologies and software. During this year’s trial period, Season Alpha, it was said that it was mainly devbots.
What they use for these vehicles is the same lidar and radar, vision cameras, sonar sensors, and sensors such as GPS as the autonomous vehicle companies like Waymo.
As it is a race where people do not ride, Robo Race gives off a sense of future entertainment. In addition, it will be possible for the audience to watch the racing with the driver’s eyes through VR goggles or smartphones. You can even do streaming around the world. In this respect, the robo race will be a competition that attracts attention in many ways. Related information can be found here .
