On May 14 (local time), Google announced a policy to limit the resources that can be used by advertisements and block those exceeding the threshold, saying that there are advertisements that consume the resources of very few devices in the ad network. It will be tested over the next several months and added to the stable version of Chrome in August.
Insufficient programs, not optimized for network use, or mining cryptocurrency behind the scenes, and not only increases resource-consuming ad network data traffic, but also adversely affects device battery life. Therefore, an advertisement that has a limit on the resources available to the advertisement may be unloaded and an error in the inventory may appear.
In addition, the threshold value is set to 15 seconds for CPU usage time or 60 seconds for total CPU usage time from 30 seconds at a random using 4MB data. Currently, about 0.3% of advertisements exceed this, but the network data used for this advertisement is said to take up 28% of the total and 28% of CPU usage.
In Chrome, according to the Better Ads Standards, it actively blocks ads that damage or interfere with the user experience. This time, the method of blocking advertisements with heavy resource consumption is one of the consistent policies to protect the user experience. Related information can be found here .
