Tesla CEO Elon Musk said it was possible to improve several aspects of the design in-house, and said that Tesla Semi, an electric semi-trailer head, could start mass production.
Tesla Semi initially aimed to launch in 2019, but as it has been postponed, the actual sales start is expected to be in 2021. Elon Musk explained that it is time to mass-produce Tesla Semis. Although there were limited productions so far, it was possible to improve many aspects of the design. Tesla Semi says that the battery and powertrain parts are produced at Giga Factory in Nevada, and the rest are likely to be made at other factories. Tesla is currently looking to build a plantation plant for its new model Y and cyber trucks, and recently, reports have appeared that Austin and Oklahoma, Texas, are prime candidates.
Speaking of electric commercial trucks, besides Tesla, other places like Nikola Motor, which was listed on NASDAQ recently, are also participating. Daimler and others are also developing semi-trailer heads like Tesla. The era of trailers represented by diesel engine sounds and black exhaust gas may end sooner than expected.
