Wingcopter is a German drone company. Since its establishment in 2017, it has developed a wingcopter 178 Heavy-lift for transportation that adopts a patented tiltrotor mechanism, making it possible to manufacture and fly. It has both the advantages of a vertical take-off and landing aircraft and a fixed-wing aircraft capable of long-distance horizontal flight. The wingcopter drone carries a 6kg cargo and can fly a range of 120km at a top speed of 160km/h.
Wingcopter is already in commercial operation all over the world. Soap Atu, in collaboration with UNICEF, provides vaccines to remote areas. Two-way delivery of medical supplies with the Tanzanian government. In Ireland, in addition to the world’s first visual prospect for insulin transport, it was also the first in the world to implement a drone flight beyond the human operator’s naked eye for emergency response to BVLOS.
Wingcopter aims at the business of providing delivery as a service. Like SaaS, it will continuously pursue a fixed monetization service that is fixed monthly. Of course, the OEM role continues. This is because the unique tiltrotor nose can cope with not only flight efficiency but also various conditions of flight.
Wingcopter recently raised $22 million in the Series A round. The company plans to recruit internal system software developers and talent for flight operation tests from the United States for US FAA approval. It has also begun attempts for potential customers, such as conducting training programs for drone flight and operation in cooperation with UNICEF (African Drone and Data Academy).
