New electric vehicles sold in the EU since July 1 this year are obliged to install noise generating devices. The reason is to allow the pedestrian to feel the car approaching without the engine.
In the case of an electric car or a hybrid vehicle capable of running on a motor, the pedestrian may not be able to pay attention to the vehicle in places such as intersections or narrow one-way streets because the engine noises. The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (ICRA) has decided to adopt an international standard for vehicles to notify vehicles in 2016. This standard will come into force on 1 July this year for European new cars.
In Europe, the vehicle access alert system is called the Acoustic Vehicle Alert System (AVAS) and should be paid when traveling at less than 19 km / h. In Europe, however, there are also voices calling for stricter standards than in the past, suggesting that a guide dog group or accessibility promotion group should always be alerted.
If the car is electrified, the noise on the road can be considered to be quiet, but for them it may seem like a nightmare. Just the sound of approaching does not sound so loud. The BBC also made a public announcement of the sample sound on Twitter.
New regulations will require all new electric vehicles to feature a warning noise to alert pedestrians and cyclists.
