Apple Watch App for Insomnia Treatment Helps Stop Nightmares, Approved by the US FDA

The Food and Drug Administration FDA, which oversees medicines and medical devices in the United States, has allowed marketing of Nightware , an app that detects and prevents nightmares with the Apple Watch.

Nightwear is a prescription application for patients who suffer from nightmares due to PTSD and are unable to sleep healthy. The Apple Watch uses heart rate and motion sensors to analyze sleep patterns for each wearer to determine if they are having a nightmare. When detected, it stimulates with vibrations that do not wake up to stop nightmares, helping to rest.

In 2017, Kickstarter, a crowdfunding site, was participating in the Breakthrough Devices Program to help FDA quickly ratify medical devices and applications by collecting costs for clinical trials. According to the FDA, Nightwear was able to significantly improve sleep in a 30-day trial on 70 patients than in the group given to the non-vibrating application.

Nightwear can be used in combination with other prescription drugs under expert guidance as part of the treatment for sleep disorders. The purpose is temporary relief, so symptoms ranging from sleepwalking or nightmares to injury are eliminated. With the approval of the FDA, the day when it can be generally prescribed as part of treatment for insomnia, at least in the United States, is nearing. Related information can be found here .
