A man named Craig Hershoff, who lives in Florida, USA, has developed a dedicated robot that attaches and detaches contact lenses. It’s a contact lens that gets used to after a long period of use, but it’s difficult to fit properly because it’s tense at first. Even if you get used to it, there are also difficult patterns due to the shaking of your hands or the curved surface as you get older. The developer has developed a robot that can attach and detach such contact lenses without human assistance.
This robot supports attaching and detaching scleral contact lenses, not ordinary lenses. The scleral lens is a design that covers the entire cornea with a dome and can be prescribed when regular lenses cannot be used. Since the robot can be controlled by voice recognition, it can be completely hands-free. In addition, since the robot mounts the lens with a mini sucker, users only need to keep their eyes wide open.
The robot is currently in clinical trials in Boston. As soon as possible, it is expected to obtain FDA approval from the US Food and Drug Administration next year.
