Google Acquired 3D Audio Startup “Expanding Spatial Audio Support?”

It was revealed that Google acquired Dysonics, a 3D audio technology development startup in December 2020. Some members of Dysonics say that they are already developing audio-related hardware at Google.

It is said that Dysonics is a startup started at UC Davis and had fewer than 10 employees as of 2020. What this company was developing is a technology related to 3D audio. At the beginning of its establishment in 2011, it developed motion tracker for headphones and spatial recognition in existing audio wearable devices, but later partnered with airline Virgin America to add in-flight audio surround technology.

As for spatial audio, the Galaxy Buds Pro supports 360 audio as well as the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max. Of course, Google’s acquisition includes patents related to spatial audio tracking as well as intellectual property rights of Dysonics, so there is a possibility that spatial audio technology will be installed in the next Pixel Bird. In addition, Google acquired the smart glass company North in 2020. Even if it is not augmented reality smart glass, it is also possible to realize a technology that searches in the sound direction by combining with 3D audio. Related information can be found here.

I am curious about this market that is still full of vitality.
