PC shipments in the first quarter, up 55% year-on-year

In the first quarter of 2021, global PC shipments increased by 55% compared to the same period in 2020, showing a high growth rate.

These results are in accordance with the announcement of the market research firm Canalys. The reason for the large difference is that the figures for the first quarter of 2020, which are the targets for comparison, are not good, but it is clear that the figures are quite high even in terms of the number of shipments. The PC market has gradually decreased over the past 10 years, and the growth rate has continued to grow by single digit or negative.

However, the growth rate turned around from the second quarter of 2020, and the growth rate finally reached 55% in the first quarter of 2021. The increase in growth rate was due to the fact that the figures for the same period of the previous year were not good due to the impact of Corona 19, but the PC market showed great growth due to increased demand due to remote work work and distance education, etc.

Compared to the number of units shipped, 82.7 million units in the first quarter of 2021 is the highest since the first quarter of 2012. If you look closely, 67.8 million units were notebooks and mobile workstations, up 79% year-on-year, and 14.8 million desktop PCs and desktop workstations, down 5% year-on-year.

The company’s market share is Lenovo with 24.7% in the first place, HP with 23.3% in the second place, Dell with 15.7% in the third place, Apple in the fourth place with 8% and Acer in the fifth place with 6.9%. Related information can be found here.

I am curious about this market that is still full of vitality.
