Google Cloud and Starlink join hands anywhere on the planet…

On May 13 (local time), Google partnered with Starlink, a satellite internet service launched by space X, a private space company, to install Starlink terminals in Google Cloud data centers around the world and establish Starlink networks. It has been announced that it has entered into a contract to allow it to be used.

SpaceX has launched 1,625 satellites so far, of which 1,550 are already in satellite orbit. Starlink has started its beta program in 2020 and has at least 10,000 users in the US, Canada and Europe. In 2015, Google invested $900 million in SpaceX to support continued innovation in space transport spacecraft reuse and satellite manufacturing.

The advantage of Starlink is that you can access high-speed Internet at low cost from anywhere on the planet. Google often has access to applications running in the cloud or cloud services such as analytics, AI, and machine learning when it has a wide range of businesses, including public institutions and companies headquartered at the edge of the network, businesses operating in local or remote locations. As needed, Starlink explains that it will provide a path to quickly and securely deliver data and applications to teams scattered across countries or continents.

In addition, Azure, a cloud service distributed by Microsoft, also announced Azure Space, which connects the data center with the Starlink network in partnership with Starlink in 2020.

Urs Hölzle, senior vice president of cloud infrastructure at Google, says he is pleased that distributed companies are able to seamlessly and securely access critical applications and services through the SpaceX alliance.

An example of a satellite Internet service provider such as Starlink is Project Kuiper, which is run by Amazon. The operation of nearly 3,000 satellites has already been approved by the authorities. Amazon is known to aim to strengthen its cloud service, AWS, using Project Kepler. Therefore, through the alliance between Google Cloud and Starlink, the competition between Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and AWS is expected to expand further into space and intensify. I am curious about this market that is still full of vitality.
