Bill Gates, were you actually banned from Microsoft’s board of directors?

Bill Gates, who announced his resignation from Microsoft’s board of directors in 2020 and ended his marriage for 27 years in May 2021, was reportedly deported from the board of directors. At the time, Microsoft was investigating allegations that Gates had acted inappropriately against a female employee in response to an employee appeal.

Microsoft founder Bill Gates came down from CEO in January 2000 and took office as chairman. After that, he stepped down from the position of chairman in 2014 and became a technical advisory executive. After focusing on philanthropy after retiring from the CEO, he also announced his resignation from the board of directors in March 2020. After resigning, Gates remains technical advisor to CEO Satia Nadella.

At that time, he explained that the resignation of the Bill Gates board was aimed at focusing on philanthropy. However, the New York Times and other foreign media reported that in reality the board had asked Bill Gates to resign. The board reportedly conducted an investigation into the inadequate relationship with Bill Gates’ female employee in 2020 and came to the conclusion that Gates should resign within the year. But Bill Gates said the investigation was complete and announced his resignation before the board made a formal decision on Gates’ women issue.

A Microsoft spokesman said that in 2019, when Bill Gates received a report that he would be intimate with a female employee in 2000, he established an investigation committee through an external law firm and supported the employee who reported during the investigation. Spokesman Bill Gates, meanwhile, argued that the matter ended 20 years ago, and that his resignation from the board had nothing to do with the matter, and that Bill Gates’ interest had shifted from a few years to spending more time on charity.

Bill Gates announced that he would divorce his wife, Melinda Gates, in May 2021. Although he did not explain the reasons for the divorce, there are reports that his wife Melinda was not fully investigated and explained to his wife, Melinda, about his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, who was arrested for prostitution or mediation. In addition, the Microsoft board of directors said that Gates and Epstein’s meeting was about philanthropy and nothing more. Epstein died in custody after his arrest.
