Anti-lost tag company Tile has announced that Amazon’s wireless protocol will start linking Sidewalks on June 14th.
Sidewalk is a standard released by Amazon in 2019 and uses a 900Hz band frequency and a Bluetooth LE frequency. In the case of communication in the 900Hz band, a longer distance connection is possible than Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, but on the other hand, the communication speed is relatively slow.
In addition, Tile’s plan to respond to sidewalks was announced last fall. According to Tile, sidewalk support can search for lost devices using the Amazon Sidewalk network as well as tag search by existing Bluetooth. By allowing the lost tile tag to recognize the nearest echo device, the probability of finding more lost items is increased.
In the field of anti-lost tags, Apple recently launched AirTag. Tile, a rival company, also announced its vigilance by saying that it welcomed the competition. The announcement of the sidewalk response immediately after the announcement of Air Tag seems to be aware of this, but support for the sidewalk through the Echo device is also scheduled on June 8th, so this tile support can also be said to be an update tailored to this period.
