Epic Games sued for infringement of the Enreal trademark

Epic Games is currently in a court battle with Apple for 30% app store fees. However, a new lawsuit was filed against Chinese smart glass manufacturer Nreal for trademark infringement. It is said that the trademark “Enreal” used by Enreal has almost the same appearance and pronunciation as Unreal, an Unreal Engine brand owned by Epic Games, and intentionally infringes the trademark.

It may seem like an Epic Games trick, but considering that Enreal is emphasizing the Unreal Engine response on its developer site, he must have been familiar with the Unreal trademark. Epic Games announced a robot recall, a virtual reality game created with Unreal Engine in 2017, and Epic Games claims that Enreal, which has the same pronunciation as Unreal in the same service field, confuses consumers.

The two companies have been arguing over the name of Unreal for a few years and have continued to talk about reconciliation, but they said they could not reach an agreement and file a complaint. Epic Games is demanding the withdrawal of the Enreal trademark and compensation for damages. In addition, the founder of Enreal was originally a Magic Reef employee and was sued for starting Enreal by stealing confidential information related to complex reality in Magic Reef companies, but this was dismissed. I am curious about this market that is still full of vitality.
