Developing concrete that recharges electricity while driving

A team of researchers from the Indiana State Department of Transportation (INDOT) and Purdue University have announced that they are conducting a new concrete test that has never been done before. This concrete is the concrete that the National Science Foundation (NSF) has funded to charge electric vehicles while driving, jointly researched and developed with Purdue University and Germany’s Magment.

The material used in this test is different from general concrete in that it is concrete made by kneading magnetized cement. The specific mechanism is not described, but Magn explains that this magnetic particle-filled concrete medium has a record wireless transmission efficiency of up to 95%, a standard road construction cost, all-weather, high thermal conductivity, and high fracture resistance. will be

The test will be conducted in several phases, with the first few phases taking place in the laboratory. If this stage yields promising results, INDOT will create a concrete-paved test course in an undisclosed location and conduct implementation tests by heavy trucks with a motor capacity of 200 kW or more. If this is successful, the next section of the main road is made of concrete.

A road that can charge an electric vehicle while driving has been studied by several countries, companies, and institutions for at least 20 years in addition to this project. In the United States, California, Stanford University, Cornell University, and Germany, Sweden and Israel in Europe and the Middle East are carrying out a project to charge electric vehicles while driving.

If successful for each project, the driver will be relieved of the battery management stress when driving long distances. However, it will take considerable budget and time to transform all highways in the country into highways that are paved and recharged. Related information can be found here.

I am curious about this market that is still full of vitality.
