ColorReader EZ is a color selector introduced by Datacolor. Now all you need is a smartphone to detect your favorite colors taken with your smartphone through the color palette app. The simplicity is attractive, but the dedicated color picker is more precise and reliable. The only downside is that it’s expensive. Color Reader EZ is a product that combines low price and performance at $59.
For example, if you take a picture of a ripe apple with a smartphone, the picture on the smartphone looks red. However, the actual color and appearance will change little by little, depending on the lighting, the time taken, the compression, and the method of processing the data from the device image sensor used. Of course, it doesn’t matter as long as you just take a picture, process it or post it on social media through a filter. However, when it comes to color matching with the actual color, the story is different.

The Color Reader EZ accurately reads the light color with an even surface thanks to a built-in white LED and a pop-up guide that is always positioned at the ideal distance. It stores and analyzes samples by wirelessly connecting Android or iOS devices, and provides accurate color values of RGB, Hex, and CIELAB.
In addition, the application is trying to match the color samples provided by North America’s largest paint companies (Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore), and suggests color matching or coordination.
The cheapest model, the ColorReader EZ, costs $59, while the ColorReader Pro costs $249. The pro model is equipped with 6 white LEDs, so the accuracy is 92%, which is higher than the general type 85%. Related information can be found here.
