To protect youth safety and privacy, TikTok has introduced new restrictions on accounts, video viewing, and Direct Messages for users aged 13-17.
As a result, accounts aged 13 to 15 will be private by default. When you publish a video, you’ll see a popup to choose who can view the video. You can select only your followers, friends, and yourself as a public scope, and you cannot set it to be visible to anyone. Also, duet and stitch functions cannot be used.
For users aged 16-17, the DM function is selected by default. But this can be changed in settings. Even the first time you use DM, you’ll be prompted to confirm your privacy settings. Similarly, a confirmation message appears when using a publicly available video download. Those aged 13 to 15 years old cannot use the DM function and can use the download function.
In addition, to prevent bullying and promote healthy digital habits, push notifications will be deactivated from 21:00 for accounts aged 13 to 15 and from 22:00 for accounts aged 16 to 17.
TikTok has been intensifying efforts to protect personal information and bullying from the past. Related information can be found here.
